It's Game Day!

  • The Rockets and T-Birds get it going tonight at Prospera Place. I predicated the T-Birds to win the U.S division this season, and the 'Birds' are one of just two teams in the WHL who have not tasted regulation time defeat. The other team is the Vancouver Giants. Sure, the T-Birds have played just two games, but have a veteran lineup that includes three first round picks. Doug O'Brien (Ottawa), Thomas Hickey (LA Kings) and Finnish goaltender Riku Helenius (Tampa Bay) make the T-Birds a solid team. That said, the last time I checked, games or not won or lost on the number of draft picks you have, or don't have in your lineup.
  • Torrie Jung gets the start in goal for the Rockets tonight. In Jung's first start of the season, he led the Rockets to a 6-4 win in Everett.
  • It appears Lyon Messier will be sitting in the stands tonight against the T-Birds. The Rockets can dress only three - 20 year-olds, meaning newcomer Brady Leovold will be joined by Kristofer Westblom and James McEwan.
  • McEwan is back in after missing weekend games against Vancouver and Everett with a groin injury. McEwan loves nothing more than playing against his old team. Colin Joe makes his 2007-2008 debut tonight, after missing the first four games of the regular season with a wrist injury.
  • AM 1150 has the game tonight starting with the pre-game show at 6:30 and the play-by-play at 7 o'clock. You can listen to the game on http://www.am1150.ca/
  • If you can't wait for tomorrow night's interview with Rockets forward Brady Leavold, you can check out the interview at www.am1150.ca. Just click on the Rockets Hockey tab and look for audio.
