Third Period Rally Results In Win

• The Edmonton Oil Kings took just one penalty, but a high sticking minor to Adrian Van de Mosselaer was costly, resulting in Colin Long's power play goal in the Rockets 5-2 home ice win. Long's goal was the game winner before Jamie Benn and Jesse Paradis - into an empty net - sealed the deal in this one.
• This was a one goal game until under 5 minutes left in the third period. Benn's goal came at 15:18 of the third before Jesse Paradis had an empty netter with just over 2 minutes left in regulation time.
• The Rockets have scored a power play goal in 18 of the 19 games they've played this season.
• Benn collected a goal and an assist in the win, giving him 9 points in three games. Those 9 points equal his total in three games last week when he was named the WHL Player of the Week. Does he get the nod for a second consecutive week?
• The Oil Kings were most certainly warned before the game not to take any bad penalties in order to give the Rockets high powered power play a chance to work some magic. It was that passive approach that resulted in no - not one - pushing and shoving match after the whistle. This wasn't a no hitter, but the Rockets were clearly trying to initiate while the Oil Kings were simply trying not to retaliate.
• This was one of the quickest games of the season. The lack of physical play after the whistle had this game complete in 2 hours and 3 minutes.
• Sunday's game marked the return of Torrie Jung to Prospera Place. Jung made 30 saves in the loss, including 10 of 12 in the third period. Jung played well for the visitors against his old team. While he never had to come up large, he was steady and gave his team a chance to win. That's all you can ask from your #1 goaltender.
• Adam Brown again got better as the game went on. After giving up two goals on the Oil Kings first four shots, the 17 year-old settled down making 20 saves the rest of the way. Brown is now 7 and 0 as a starter. Coach Huska says he'll be given the start Tuesday against the Americans.
• Last night's game was a showdown of unbeaten goaltenders. Brown was 6 and 0 while Jung was 3-0-0-1.
• Dylan Hood should again be commended for his work ethic and ability to throw some big hits when his team was flat in the opening frame. Kyle Verdino also responded with some physical play, including a huge hit on Oil Kings forward Clayton Cumiskey.
• While the Oil Kings may not be happy with their game, I sure like their team. Adam Raedeke has great skating ability, Tomas Vincour is dangerous when he has the puck and their overall defensive play isn't bad for a second year team. For a team that has given up the most goals in the WHL, I thought I'd see more holes in their game. Something tells me better goaltending - courtesy of Jung - will help those numbers.
• The Rockets out-scored the opposition 24-11 during the 5 game home-stand.
